drop kick

Puzzle #251 · February 7, 2026
This is an old-school football term.
A drop kick is like a punt, but the ball must touch the ground before it is kicked and it is used in field goal or point after kicks.
Drop kicks are, in fact, still allowed in the NFL and NCAA, but aside from one kick by Doug Flutie in 2006 as a kind of fun trick, it hasn't been used in the NFL since 1941.
Times change, different techniques work better now, but the drop kick is still there waiting in the rulebook.
