Puzzle #77 · August 17, 2025
The name ‘Grateful Dead’, taken by the 1960's era psychedelic and improvisational band led by Jerry Garcia, was chosen out of an act of “... stoned bibliomancy ... picking ‘Grateful Dead’ at random out of a dictionary. Appearing in many cultures, it is a folktale in which the protagonist resolves the debt of a deceased stranger, and later receives karmic repayment from their spirit incarnate.” --dead.net
