Suspicious package is a term used in security contexts, especially at airports, for unattended or worrisome packages, bags, or containers. The term came into heavy regular usage starting with the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing, where security guard Richard Jewell discovered a ‘suspicious package’ (a backpack containing a pipe bomb).
