Puzzle #43 · July 14, 2025
Voicemail originated in the late 1970s. Gordon Matthews, founder of VMX, received a patent for a digital voice messaging system and sold the first one to the 3M Corporation. The term ‘voicemail’ was later trademarked by Televoice International in 1980. Early voicemail systems were expensive and large. Today the technology is ubiquitous, available on every cell phone plan.
