In Britain, a walkabout is when an important person, including royalty, strolls amongst the people, informally talking with them. In Australia, a walkabout is a journey on foot undertaken by an Australian Aboriginal in order to live in the traditional manner. In the movie Crocodile Dundee, which represents a large percentage of the knowledge most Americans have about Australia, the pub where Mick “Crocodile” Dundee spends time with his mate Walter is the Walkabout Creek Hotel, a real place in McKinlay, Queensland.
