executive branch

Featured
Puzzle #242 · January 29, 2026
The executive branch in the U.S. Constitution is led by the President.

The Founders intended the executive branch to enforce laws and conduct foreign policy efficiently, contrasting it with the weak executive under the Articles of Confederation and an unchecked monarchy. The Founders put in place a system of separation of powers, with checks and balances (e.g., Senate approval, Congress declaring war), and public accountability to prevent tyranny. Congress, not the executive, was initially seen as the dominant branch.
